IS Core examination covers a range of topics that are considered to be the knowledge required of every information systems and information technology professional today. There are no specific educational or experience requirements that must be met in order to take this examination, but an examinee that does not have a broad background in systems and technology, from either formal education or range of experience, typically will find it difficult to pass.
Business Intelligence and Analytics examination is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge of the concepts and practices for the effective use of data and information analysis to support management decision-making and to drive positive business results. The candidate will be tested on both business and technical topics including business intelligence concepts and roles, business management perspectives, analytics techniques and usage, and business intelligence/decision support systems lifecycle and technologies. Many topics are covered in DAMA-DMBOK, Chapter 9.
Data and Information Quality examination tests the candidate’s knowledge of the theory and professional practices, associated with the quality of data and information. Topics include data and information quality concepts, process and roles; data and information quality audit process, data and information quality remediation; and data and information quality activities. Most of the topics are covered in DAMA-DMBOK, Chapter 12.
Data Development examination tests the data management professional’s knowledge of data development activities. Topics range from data modeling analysis, design and solution (conceptual, logical and physical) to detailed data design, data model and design quality management, and data implementation.
Data Governance and Stewardship exam tests the data governance / steward’s knowledge of the theory and practices of Data Governance and Data Stewardship. Topics include data governance concepts, data governance and stewardship roles, data governance inputs and deliverables, data governance function, and fundamental knowledge areas for data stewardship activities.
Data Integration and Interoperability exam tests the candidate’s knowledge of the theory and practices of data integration and interoperability. Topics include data integration and interoperability concepts, drivers and value, architecture and data patterns, processes, technologies and standards, system types, relationship to SDLC, organizational roles and governance.
Data Management Core examination tests the data management professional’s broad knowledge of the ten functions of the Data Management process as depicted in the DAMA-DMBOK. The functions include Data Governance, Data Architecture Management, Data Development, Data Operations Management, Data Security Management, Reference and Master Data Management, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Management, Document and Content Management, Meta-data Management, and Data Quality Management.
Data Operations (DBA) examination tests the data management professional’s knowledge of theory and practices of both data operations and data security. Topics include database support; DMBS environment; SQL considerations; data technology management; definition of data security policies, standards, controls and procedures; management of user access and behavior; classification of information confidentiality; and auditing data security.
Data Warehousing examination is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge of the theory and practice of data warehousing from the warehouse infrastructure creation/maintenance, analysis/design, data acquisition/cleansing to implementation/operation. It also tests the knowledge of theory and practice of the data warehousing function, organizational skills required, and roles and responsibilities of the data warehousing professional within the enterprise.
Zachman Framework for Enterprise Architecture examination is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge of the theory and practice of using the Zachman Framework2 for Enterprise Architecture. Topics include concepts and roles, planning for the Framework, models analysis and development, and infrastructure management.
For the CDMP Mastery Level: Candidates must pass each exam, e.g. the IS Core (mandatory), Data Management Core (mandatory) and one data specialty exam of your choice at the 70% level or higher.
For the CDMP Practitioner Level: Candidates must pass each exam, e.g. the IS Core (mandatory), Data Management Core (mandatory), and one data specialty exam of your choice at the 50% level or higher.
For the CDMP Mastery Level: Candidates must pass each exam, e.g. the Core, one data exam and one specialty exam of your choice at the 70% level or higher.
For the CDMP Practitioner Level: Candidates must pass each exam, e.g. the Core, one data exam and one specialty exam of your choice at the 50% level or higher.
For the Proficiency Certificate: Candidates must pass the specialty (other than the IS Core) at the 70% level.
Data Governance & Stewardship Professional Credential (DGSP)
The Data Governance & Stewardship Professional Credential (DGSP) credential is awarded to those who qualify based on a combination of criteria including education, experience and test-based examination of professional level knowledge of data governance and stewardship (the exam in Data Governance & Stewardship). This credential is offered at the Mastery or Practitioner level. To maintain certified status and continued use of the credential, an annual recertification fee along with a 3-year cycle of continuing education and professional activity is required.
For paid exams, all candidates will receive a detailed official performance profile if they pass over the 50% level. The performance profile details how well they did on what sections. It is a great tool for identifying strengths and weaknesses. It presents a gap analysis between what a candidate knows and what he/she does not know.
