This presentation focuses on lessons learned during the first year of standing-up of an Enterprise Data Management Office in Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development to support our changing world. This has been prompted by three paradigm shifts within the provincial government: \nOpen Data\nAbility to share data across Ministries and Agencies to support an integrated business model, and\nExtendibility of data to support environmental policy to manage cumulative effects.\nThe key areas explored in this presentation are:\n<ol>A brief overview of the Enterprise Data Management Office's mandate;\nMoving the program from paper to operational (in the first year); and\nLessons learned in data governance by standing-up the beginnings of a data stewardship organization (program).</ol>
