DESCRIPTION:Click for Latest Location Information: http://edw2015.dataversity.net/sessionPop.cfm?confid=87&proposalid=7615\nThe Financial Services (FS) industry is making significant efforts to leverage semantics and achieve data harmonization. Some of this is driven by regulations, such as BCBS 238 and the LEI, but much is driven by the realization that semantics can improve the top and bottom lines, as with standard models, analysis of big data, and data-driven customer centricity. \nIn this session we review how semantics and data harmonization can be implemented in FS enterprises. Semantics production versus consumption is described with reference to how semantics can be broken down into components including terms, definitions, taxonomies, rules, and ontologies. Examples of governance and technology that assure high quality content and facilitate delivery are described. Data harmonization requires similar governance and technology, but also requires development of and adherence to standards, and examples of how this can be implemented in FS are described. \nAttendees will learn:\nWhat important drivers are for semantics and data harmonization in Financial Services\nWhat the essential components of semantics are, and how these can be implemented in Financial Services\nHow technology and governance are used to support semantics implementations\nTechniques used to achieve data harmonization in Financial Services.\n
