Level:  Introductory

Having gained funding, resources and mandate to embark on a new BI/DW programme, how do you know where to start? This presentation shows you how to get your business stakeholders to have a meaningful, quick and easy prioritization workshop that will set your programme on the right path.

We had a recently merged organization, very little shared understanding of what data existed and its relative value and a group of stakeholders who knew very little about each other or the different segments of our business. How then to have a meaningful discussion about priorities?

We created a simple prioritization matrix and led our business groups through a workshop process that had surprising outcomes and a lot of additional benefits for our burgeoning Data Warehouse/ Business Intelligence Programme.

The presentation will cover:

  • Developing a prioritization model and toolkit to suit our business
  • What we included and why
  • Using the model
  • The process: How business representatives 'pitched' their top 3 to the governance group and how we then debated and decided what to work on
  • Some surprises and new opportunities
  • Has it worked in reality? What we learned.
