The Intesa Sanpaolo Group, with 11.1 million customers and over 4,500 branches in Italy, is the Italian leading banking group. It is also one of the top banking groups in Europe.

Intesa Sanpaolo Group was seeking to combine structured forex customers transactions harmonized with topics, concepts, entities, opinions of social and online media to discover patterns and correlations with real time actionable business insights.

Specifically they were looking to:

  • Make correlations between complex events e.g. macro-economic behavior of currency exchange rates, trends in commodities market, FX market influencers, behavior of forex customers.
  • Highlight divergence from established currency exchange frequency/trends with variations in order volumes from customer categories (funds, corporates, etc.) with alerts indicating competitive threat or other issues
  • Dynamic user interface that depicts market trends and conditions enriched with web news and social media to support analysis and address alerts with actions to enhance market intelligence for improved risk intelligence and performance trends.

He previously worked in Barclays and Citigroup. He spent more than 25 years in FX arena starting from trading dealing in the ERM era. He graduated cum laude in Universita’ Bocconi in Milan and has been assistant professor at Universita’ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, being co-author of some papers on Artificial Intelligence in the Financial Industry. He is responsible for Banca IMI FX Academy, a teaching initiative to understand more deeply the nature, the instruments and the structural changes that have appeared in FX as an asset class.
